Ω ΜΛTHS
VOLUME AND CAPACITY
HEIGHT OF A PRISM OR CYLINDER: The length of the shortest line segment from a base of a prism or cylinder to the plane containing the opposite base. The height is perpendicular to the bases.
Catalan: Altura d’un prisma o cilindre Spanish: Altura d’un prisma o cilindre
HEIGHT OF A PYRAMID OR CONE: The length of the shortest line segment from the apex of a pyramid or cone to the plane containing the base. The height is perpendicular to the base.
Catalan: Altura de la pirà mide o con Spanish: Altura de una pirámide o cono
ICOSAHEDRON: A polyhedron with 20 faces. An icosahedron with equilateral triangle faces is one of the five regular polyhedrons. Catalan: Icosà edre Spanish: Icosaedro
IMPERIAL: Traditional system of measurement used in Great Britain and its colonies.
Catalan: Imperial Spanish: Imperial
PINT: Imperial unit of volume or capacity used to measure liquid or dry goods. In liquid measurements, containing 4 gills.
Catalan: Pinta Spanish: Pinta
PRISM: A polyhedron with two parallel and congruent polygonal regions for bases and lateral faces formed by all the line segments with endpoints on corresponding edges of the bases. The lateral faces are all parallelograms. Lateral faces intersect at lateral edges. In a right prism, the lateral faces are rectangular.
Catalan: Prisma Spanish: Prisma
PYRAMID: A polyhedron made up of any polygonal region for a base, a vertex (apex) not in the plane of the base, and all of the line segments with one endpoint at the apex and the other on an edge of the base. All faces except perhaps the base are triangular. Catalan: Pirà mide Spanish: Pirámide
VERTEX: The point at which the rays of an angle, the sides of a polygon, or the edges of a polyhedron meet. Plural is vertexes or vertices.
Catalan: Vèrtex Spanish: Vértice
VOLUME: The amount of space occupied by a 3-dimensional figure. Same as capacity.
Catalan: Volum Spanish: Volumen
